Virginia Woolf once wrote, “One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.”
At Maggio’s Italiano, we think that’s as appropriate a quote as possible. It explains, with precision and elegance, why we took the steps to open our restaurant and our doors to our friends in Alexandria and beyond. But if you will, allow us to elaborate briefly.
Before a physical site was found, recipes collected, and menu designed, we asked ourselves a simple question. Why should we open a restaurant? There are numerous Italian and Mediterranean eateries open in our area. What can we bring to the table that’s unique and different from the rest?
As so often happens, the answer was obvious. 21st century America is a place that runs non-stop. We get up too early, work too much, take too little time for ourselves. Everything is difficult, stressful to some degree. In our small way, we wanted to be the antidote to that. When someone walks through our front door, we want them to take a deep breath. Relax. Once they’re seated by servers who are attentive without being overbearing, we want them to be pleasantly surprised by the menu. An abundance of choices, delicacies hailing from Italy, Spain, Greece, the Mediterranean, and right at home here in America. Dishes that are all prepared in-house with fresh ingredients.
After a brief pause, their meal is delivered. But the food serves to enhance a feeling. A feeling of relaxation, of companionship, of knowing that whoever walks through the door is always welcome. A feeling of home. And if people opt to utilize some of our other services, such as our relaxing hookah bar or professional catering, that feeling of well-being will follow them.
We opened Maggio’s Italiano to give all of our customers a home away from home. We can’t wait to do the same for you.
